THE ARTIST BEHIND THE BRUSH

Zoey has always been an artist-

Currently working as an independent artist and instructor full time, I look back and see the leaps that got me here. One big leap was sharing to the world that I … am an artist. The world may scoff and roll it’s eyes- “Well, what does that mean anyway?” Art by definition is the expression or application of human

creative skill and imagination producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. And that’s what I do. But more importantly I share the process of this production with others not so confident in this field. Art for a long time has been considered a luxury but studies show over time that in order for communities, cities, and economies to thrive art must be present.

Kings and Queens, Chiefs and figures of higher power (if successful) are usually adorned with very specific and intricate symbols. Jewels, beautiful beadwork, tailored uniforms and bold markings. This is no accident. Art shows a presence of abundance and therefore often related to luxury and not necessity. This abundance when present however, leads to stronger generations and overall healthier, confident contributing members to society. In hard times, art is often put on the back burner while basic needs of survival must be met. No one is thriving in these times; surplus isn’t present and neither is the time to create primarily for beauty or emotional power. Society is failing.

So what’s all this gibberish mean? It means you are deserving of art and it is a necessity to express yourself to prosper. And that’s where I come in! As an artist my goal is to encourage creative thinking; creative thinkers manifest stronger communities. Let’s get to know each other and create some abundance with in our homes, communities and cities.

A little more about me?

Often, days are spent consuming too much coffee and spreading the love of creativity. I create for those looking to obtain an atmosphere in their home, their business, show their love for someone, create family heirlooms, capture memories or to simply show appreciation for themselves. We are all capable and deserving of expression. I'm just here to help with the process! I open up my commissions periodically, paint murals, run an online shop, and instruct clay workshops. Soon, you'll be able to paint along with me through YouTube. Feel encouraged to check out my Instagram. My newest services include live event painting & guest fashion portraits!

Florida's Treasure Coast has always been home to me. Spending long hot days on the water or in the swampy woods, is easy come. Scouting, conserving, and enjoying Florida’s biodiversity influences a lot of my creative work. Any other spare minute is spent with my family, life partner in crime Austin, my Tuxedo Mix Kitty Sushi and my Pup Sage - (we don’t know what the hell she is).

It is neat to know I come from generations of artists. My Great Grandpa, Herbert Neuburger was a watercolorist who immigrated to Fort Pierce from Germany. He befriended Beanie Backus and framed a majority of Beanie’s preeminent work. Herb’s original painting is seen in the photo to left and always hung above our families dining room table. Beanie is recognized internationally as a Florida landscape artist and its said he greatly influenced the work of Alfred Hair. Alfred Hair is one of the original Highwaymen. Also referred to as the Florida Highwaymen, this group consisted of 26 African American landscape painters in Florida.

Future generations such as my Mother remained in Fort Pierce; it’s where my mom grew up. My mother later raised her four children in White City. Including myself, two eldest sisters (who are also artists) and my younger brother.

I currently reside in Vero Beach. I study acrylic and gouache mediums in free time, as well as experiment with the wonders of clay. I’ve been painting as long as I can remember and working with clay since 2014. Teaching and painting professionally since 2017. I created my first mural in 2018.

I’ve gained my experience through always considering myself an artist. I have a deep drive for creating and sharing that with others. Teaching is something that has come naturally to me. Fresh out of high school I started to gain experience introducing a range of mediums to children. I love seeing something just click for someone. And quite honestly, a lot can be learned myself from seeing how concrete fundamentals can still be interpreted; seeing processes I may not have thought of or executed myself. My patience is always remarked upon while working with all ages and its something I take pride in.

Intelligence is said to correlate with how many synapses take place when a single stimulus is provided. In other words, how many connections take place with a single thought. The more we see how everything is woven together and connected by basic fundamentals, the closer we will get to creating and living with meaning. Creating makes living worthwhile. It provides drive through experiencing the exquisite… the beautiful. Which is substantial to fuel our purpose and claim space in this world.

Holding the previous position as Summer Camp Coordinator, Acrylic on Canvas Guide, and Basics to Clay Instructor at Brushing On Bisque Pottery and Art Studio, I had the pleasure of teaching with children and adults of all capabilities. Now, creating content and custom mural work is my full time operation. I help others capture moments in history, hold space within a community and live with intent.
